Why does God allow suffering in the world?

The question of suffering is one of the most difficult questions people ask about God. The Bible teaches that suffering entered the world as a result of sin when humanity turned away from God. Because of this fallen condition, the world no longer functions in the perfect harmony God originally created.

However, Scripture also reveals that God does not abandon the world in its suffering. Throughout the Bible, God is shown to be near to those who are hurting, offering comfort, strength, and hope even in the midst of pain. His presence assures believers that suffering does not mean He has forgotten them.

The life of Jesus Christ also shows that God understands human suffering. Jesus experienced rejection, pain, injustice, and death. Through His suffering on the cross, He provided redemption and demonstrated God’s deep love for humanity.

While believers may not always understand why suffering occurs in specific situations, the Bible teaches that God can use even painful circumstances for good purposes. Trials often deepen faith, refine character, and draw people closer to God.

The Christian hope is that suffering will not last forever. Scripture promises that God will ultimately restore creation and remove pain, injustice, and death when His kingdom is fully revealed.
