Gifts of the Holy spirit?

Gifts of the Spirit: How They Work Today

The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to believers not for personal glory, but to serve God and build up the Church. These gifts are expressions of His power, wisdom, and love, enabling ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes for God.

Spiritual gifts are diverse. Some are teaching and wisdom, helping others understand God’s Word. Others are healing and miracles, displaying God’s power in tangible ways. Still others are encouragement, service, and leadership, empowering the Church to thrive. Every gift, whether visible or subtle, points to God’s glory and advances His kingdom (First Epistle to the Corinthians 12).

Importantly, these gifts are not based on human ability. They are given freely by the Spirit to whomever He wills. Paul reminds us that “to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (First Epistle to the Corinthians 12:7). They are tools of service, not badges of honor.

In practice, gifts of the Spirit are meant to be active today. While some may function differently than in the early Church, the principle remains: God equips His people with supernatural enablement for ministry, encouragement, and the spread of the gospel. Gifts are to be exercised in love, in humility, and under the guidance of the Spirit, producing unity rather than division.

Understanding the gifts of the Spirit transforms how we serve, pray, and live. It reminds us that God is at work through His people, equipping each believer for unique roles in His plan. The Spirit does not call only the extraordinary; He empowers the willing, making every believer a vessel for His glory.
