Spiritual growth begins with a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. When a person places faith in Christ and receives salvation, the Holy Spirit begins a work of transformation within them. Growth happens as a believer continually walks with God through obedience, learning, and dependence on His grace. Jesus taught that abiding in Him is essential, saying that apart from Him we can do nothing.
A believer grows spiritually through regular engagement with Scripture, sincere prayer, and a heart that desires to obey God. The Word of God renews the mind and shapes the believer’s understanding of truth. Prayer strengthens communion with God and aligns the heart with His will. As a believer practices these things consistently, the Holy Spirit gradually produces Christlike character.
Spiritual growth also takes place through fellowship with other believers, repentance from sin, and a willingness to follow God even in difficult seasons. Over time the believer becomes more rooted in faith, more sensitive to the leading of the Spirit, and more devoted to living for the glory of God.
